In my understanding the "ArtEastka" means "Art" + "East" or something like the actress, instead of the artist (though it is written as artist) well maybe the artist too

Has anybody written a "Translator's code"?

Here's my one:

The main translator’s rules:

1) The translator always should realize made on him/her responsible.
The success of translation depends on that, how many knowledge and
Sincere& forces the translator has enclosed in it.
2) Besides scientific, first of all linguistic preparation,
the translator should be able to overcome
blanks in the knowledge by means of erudition.
Plus, sense of humour (of course, if it necessary). :)))
3) Depending on a kind of activity of translators it is possible to divide all translators on oral and written. With the first group everything is clean, they have to translate everything right here and right now, and the second divides on
translators technical and fiction literature. Different kinds of translation demand various abilities and temperament. The oral translator should as much as possible full to hand over the information here and now. As a rule, they haven’t time to look for something in dictionaries.
4) Learn to translate obscene expressions, idioms, phraseological units.
It is difficult to translate an impromptu "Kuzkina’s mother",
But sometimes it is possible to tell: "The lecturer has joked",
using an absolutely not translated word-play,
"And I think, it will be pleasant, if all of you will laugh now". :))
The necessary effect, for certain, will be reached.
5) Get a writing-book where you will write down epithets,
synonyms, set phrases for standard situations
6) The translator should fill up the lexicon vocabulary every day.

__________________________________
But the translator should understand, what to know everything - is impossible.
And to know all - is unnecessary at all. :)

Dear Nikita Skorohvatov!

Thank you for your "Code" as you are the first who managed to do it. Well, I really like your code and would like to know:

1) What kind of translator would you like to be?

2) How do you think, if there are some things that any translator must not do in any case?

Hello everybody!
Here is my visit card:

My name is Andrei Zakrzhevsky, I’m student of 10th grade of
polytechnic lyceum in town Mirny, Yakutia.
My friends sometimes say that I’m like Bolkonsky.
Restrained, mannered, neat and so…
I think basketball ball, snowboard, snow, stars can tell something
about me and my interests…
I participate this contest ‘cause I like translate different texts,
like read compositions in original language (English).
I expect to find it very interesting and fascinating because I like
a lot contests which are held by Eidos.
Now, I don’t have any questions, but I think I’ll have during contest.

And "Translator's code":

Code must allocate the basis of action to be followed by a translator
that would fully convey the meaning of words spoken or written text.
Basically, the Code should address the oral part of the interpreter.
For example, everyone knows that one word in different languages
can have much more translations. Each translation may have different
meanings. Thus, the interpreter should be careful when translating
speech to avoid conflict situations. The translator should be easy to
get in touch with any people, to find a common language to talk was
not constrained. The translator must not have bad habits, so as not to
nauseate a buddy.

I've read your writings and realized that my ones are very simple
and small...

Hello, everybody!

We also want to present our Code. We think that

1. A good translator must be literate. He must constantly improve his literacy and broaden his horizons.
2. A good translator must have a good style and sense of style in ordsr that, for any translation, whether written or oral, the text was read or sounded clear, understandable and beautiful.
3. A good translator must respect the author's text and its translation. He must not try to change it, and certainly not add or not reduce it on his discretion.
4. The good translator should own the big base of dictionaries, encyclopedias, to use the Internet in the educational purposes. At the slightest doubt in correctness of a writing of words it should check itself by means of the dictionary.
5. The good translator has no right to pass an opinion the point of view of the said text at an oral translation and the more so it shouldn't present the information at own discretion and to belief.
6. A good translator should be responsible for the translation and its quality. The translator should recognize and rectify the errors, and the good translator shouldn't suppose them.
7. A good translator always understands that the information which he has received for translation, is confidential. He shouldn't use it in the mercenary purposes and do it the property of the public.
8. A good translator will never take huge volume of the text which needs to be made in the shortest terms if he knows that won't consult. It is better to refuse transfer or to take half of order, than to hand over the transfer made on "tjap-mistake". The good translator doesn't suppose hack-work.
9. And the main thing: the good translator loves the work and does it with love.
Be good translators!

The translator should possess knowledge of the country, culture, customs of this country, traditions etc. (i.e. it should to be competent of almost any area)
Diplomatic qualities are important too
Insight
Good memory
Protection of interests of the client.
Presence of rules helps to be guided with difficult situations, reduces risk of possible speech errors and risk to be not understood.
The good translator should possess such professional qualities, as responsibility, diligence and respect for people. Also it should have skills of the journalist, the secretary, the writer. The translator should be polite with its clients. It should be very attentive (to hear to ALL from this that the client speaks, to translate the information given to it authentically). Also it should think quickly (that is to translate very quickly).
The translator is obliged to provide high level of competence of spheres of a source language, a target language, the technician of transfer and text subjects. It should do it by the all ways known to it.
The translator should be able to convey all meaning told by its client, to be able to transfer emotions else. Besides it sometimes should be able to convince the interlocutor that its client of the rights. Presently force will not help your business. If you, the translator, don't know has imparted belief of people you shouldn't work in this trade.
And, certainly, the main restriction which can be in work of the translator is increases of a voice on the client and the more so translator mustn’t break its personal rights.

Dear girls!

Thank you for your Code. Would you, please, answer some of my questions?

1. Some of the participants of our contest think that a sense of humour is a very important trait of character for a translator. What do you think about it?

2. Are there any things that a translator has no right to do in any situation?

3. How can a person become a very good translator?

Hello, Olga Hikolaevna!)
We were thinking-thinking… And… these are answers!)

1. The sense of humour is necessary for the translator because in an operating time there can be every possible unexpected situations, and sometimes they even can be the comical. And in such situation the translator from sense of humour will always find such way out which wouldn't humiliate the client (especially if the client has made wrong action)
2. The answers are in our Code. (Such as: “A good translator will never take huge volume of the text which needs to be made in the shortest terms if he knows that won't consult”. and “Certainly, the main restriction which can be in work of the translator is increases of a voice on the client and the more so translator mustn’t break its personal rights”.)
3. He just should carry out Code rules)) And, of course, first of all his language skills should be perfect!

With love,

To fulfill the task I must say that there is a translator and interpreter. They both work with languages but their works is different. I will speak about an interpreter.
She/ he must be:
1. Smart. He/she has to know a lot to translate details correctly.
2. Good-looking. He/she works with foreigners and represents his own country.
3. Sociable and tolerant. He/she has to deal with people of different cultures and peculiarities.
4. Well-mannered and gentle. He/she has to communicate with emotional people who can easily lose control.
5. Fluent in the foreign languages. He/she should know idioms and phrasal verbs not to get at a loss
6. Self-confident. He/she must be responsible for the truthfulness and correctness of his translations.
7. He/she must know the culture of a foreign country as well as his own one, because he/she should love and respect the natives.

To sum it up I can say that to be an interpreter is not as easy thing though it’s really exciting, because it’s gives a lot of opportunities that is why this job appeals to many young people. I’m not exception=)

Here we are!

The name of our team is Only Two

We have been acting as a team for two years, but earlier our team was bigger! We can't say that we are the cleverest, but more obstinate and proof.

We are very different and it makes our work together easier, because you know “Truth is born in discussion” or.quarells…sometimes

Sveta is good at translation, especially at poetical one. So I hope that all difficult translation will be done by Svetlana (Ilua) And I hope that

Ilya will communicate with the other participants and make all technical part of the work.(Svetlana) Some part of the work must be done together and

we are not ready yet with the code, because we have different points of view, so we must come to agreement first.

We are late for the contest cause we hoped to gather all the team (There were 8 of us last time) But we have rather difficult time now-we are

preparing for exams. Oh, we’ve forgotten to say that Ilya is 16 and he is in the 9th form, and Sveta is 16 and in the 10th form.

Ilya is interested in psychology and Sveta in medicine. As you can see we have something in common

We don’t hope to win this time, but have good time and interesting tasks!!!

Klopova Svetlana and Belikin Ilya

My vizit card

My name is Anna Zadorozhnaya. I'm 17years old. I live in Kaluga and study In Gimnasia № 9 in 10"V" (medical) form
I'm very curious and creative, I like to speak foreign languages (now I know only English and not so well, that’s why I am here ) But I continue studying it and enjoy it very much)
Else I have a lot of interests:(I like to do something unusual like studying Japanese language, I like how it sounds; and fighting arts- it's very interesting for me because I studied it . I can draw (often landscapes and anime heroes),sing, play the violin and the piano (I finished music and art school).I like listen to music(rock; j-rock(Japan) and something else...also I like to read (in English too),to walk with friends, to play pin pong, and to do other interesting things...
Now I'm a member of anime-club +Karas+ (we organize a lot of festivals for anime-fans in Kaluga; this winter our club was on Moscow festival "Animatrix")

P.S. Well, now you know what to talk with me about :)))
http://pics.qip.ru/301owso.jpg<\/u><\/a> I like travelling, as you can see)

____________

The translator’s code:

The most important characteristics for the translator are:

*Good memory and good knowledge of language (The translator should always improve it)
*really GOOD translator must be literate, creative and should to do his work well and with love (a real translator is who really likes his work).

The translator should know specificity of his job well:

*The translator should know well culture of that country in which language he talks.
*The translator should precisely know, what kind of translation he is going to do (written or an oral translation) (because it’s so different things!)And understand the original-text well.
*The translator should be attentive, in other way he can make a mistake (That’s why translator need in good vocabularies and Internet).
*The translator must be honest.
*The translator should be able to transfer emotions in his translation.
*And I think the translator should speak fluently, accurately and clearly for associates (otherwise it is not the translator whom nobody will understand)
*The translator should be diplomatic and should avoid sharp expressions and excessive estimated judgments (in the text).

The translator mustn’t:

1 deform the author's text and to change sense of author's phrases.
2 have such bad habits as laziness and roughness.
3 do his work badly.

And I think that the translator should be just a good person with whom it is always pleasantly to talk).

P.S. I wanted to make this text on a beautiful background, but I couldn't send it here(

Harder every day in the dictionary I look,
In his columns, twinkling sparks feelings.
In the basement of the words do not come just art
In his hand a dark lantern.

At all events the words print
They were observed not in vain person
Read: "Age. Of the century. Vekovat.
Age live out. God's son did not give age.

Century stick, a century to heal someone else ... "
The words sounded a reproach, and anger, and conscience.
No, not vocabulary lies before me,
And the ancient tale sprinkled.

Hi, slader!
We have chosen your translation for analysis. We think that you have done a good translation.
Translation of the poem completely corresponds to the original. Style corresponds to style of transfer. We liked the translation of this poem, it was pleasant to us, but translation is too literal. We would like to advise the author of the translation to make it more creative. It is an artwork and we were offered to translate it in different ways. So we expected the translation to be more creative.

In cellars of words art
again will descend
Holding in a hand

On all words the press of event ,
They were gave not for nothing
to human being,
I read: «the Century. From a century.
Century to live. God to the son hasn't given to a century.

Century to jam,

We liked your translation very much. Translation of the poem completely corresponds to the original.

Style corresponds to style of transfer. We think that your work doesn't have any "minuses" according to the criteria of the task.
Thanks a lot!!!

Smile today!)) Спасибо: 0

Well, I decided to put the answers here
Here's my visit card

Hello!! I am Tishina Margarita Andreyevna. I go to Gymnasium #1 in my tiny Sterlitamak.
I’ve been studying English since I was 8 years old. It is my hobby, my favourite subject and…I hope my future. I enjoy taking part in various English contests and olympiads (and I’m usually successful). I love to read English books and watch films in English. Last year my teacher and I made a research work on Russian and American jokes. It turned out that jokes are very difficult to translate, sometimes it is just impossible! This contest is a great opportunity to try some other forms of translation.

As I have already said, I would like my future job to be connected with English and other foreign languages. Perhaps, I will become a translator. So, why not to start translating right now? I hope to find out something new about translation and learn to use this knowledge. I’m never satisfied with the result of my work, but I’m sure this contest is worth taking part in.

Dear participants, I would like to ask you some questions.
1) Which profession would you choose: translator or interpreter? Your answers are important for me.
2) It’s rather difficult to translate the 2nd stanza of the poem in the 3rd task, isn’t it? Is it possible to change some of the expressions with ones common in the English language?
