Because at this time people are like a family. Adults and children receive gifts, and who doesn't like presents? :) Thats why people of all ages love new year.

A very interesting question. I like that in Britain new year is celebrated by the whole family, including distant relatives, and in Russia more often only by close relatives. Also I like British tradition which is called "Christmas Cracker", when people clap cracker with a souvenir and a message. I would like to introduce these traditions in Russia.

1. What do you know about the celebration of the New Year in Great Britain and Russia?

There are some common features and some differences either. Both in Britain and in Russia New Year is celebrated on the 31st of December. In both countries people decorate houses and cook special meals. What more, there is a marvelous tradition of exchanging presents. It's on the one hand, but on the other some differences also exist. In Britain New Year is not a day of great importance - they celebrate Christmas on the 25th of December. In Great Britain New Year is known to be just a family meal, while we,Russians, have all night celebration.

5. Where is better to celebrate the New Year exactly for you? Why?

I've always dreamed to celebrate New Year in a European country. In Europe the atmosphere of the holiday is very special - like the merry-go-round of shops, presents, decorations. It's not a secret, that in comparison with New Year celebrations the Klondike's Gold Rush looks like a vicar's tea party. I hope I'll have such an opportunity some day.

I think celebration in Great Britian and Russia are alike, but not the same. In the Great Britian's culture there are the same traditions, as in Russia: Christmas tree, nice gifts, tangerines and sweets and another. All peoples have fun and I think the most of us say that New Year's eve is the great time to spend it with your friends and family, this day brings people together!

Trere are difference between celebrations, of caurse. In Great Britian and in Russia there are main traditions, but they are not the same. Cultures are different, for example in Britian Christmas is most important day, than New Year. For peoples who live in Britian the New Year is only extension of Cristmas holidays, but for Russians New Year is the beast day in a year, after Birthday, they make affort to prepare all things for celebration!
Relation to the holidays are different, I think.

I think that the biggest difference is that in Great Britain Christmas is more importent then New Year.

Naturally this tree. One can not imagine the new year without a Christmas tree. So much a part of the new year is a gift. GIFTS, GIFTSGIFTSGIFTSGIFTS.

Thanks for such a question. I've been thinking about it for several years.
I'm sure that it's necessary to believe in the existence of Santa when we are kids. And children do it because this belief brings some wonder, something magic in their life. Miracle is that thing which makes us feel alive. Of course some can feel indifference or even irritation to Santa when they become adults. But when you get your own family and your own children, when you become older, it seems to you it is true again. You become wiser and you are afraid to lose that fragile link with your childhood.
So, everyone, believe in Santa. It will give you hope, energy, understanding of life!

As for me, I think that Christmas tree should be real. Well, I have no idea how to explain it, but it seems to me more natural. I believe that here are many people who like the smell of the real fir-tree. But in the same way artificial Christmas tree has some advantages, for example, you don`t have to buy it every year or do not need to sweep it`s needles.

The New Year can be celebrated anywhere, it`s for you to choose. But you must celebrate it with your family or with close friends. You should spend the new year so you can remember it and with the people, you love.

2)I give a lot of candy and a couple of books on the subject of the new year!
3)I would wish that my younger brother helped him luck during a long and hard way!
4)To be honest I do not believe in Santa Claus because I've grown out of childhood. I understand that such a character as Santa Claus brings something unusual in the new year but I do not care any do not believe in it.
5)I'll be celebrating the new year at home, surrounded by my beloved parents, my beloved brother and the dog and I'm sure it will be a memorable new year!
